David Rabbi Meir Kahane zt "l kahane.org hameir.org Kahane was Brooklyn, born in New York, New York in 1932 to an Orthodox Jewish family. His father, Rabbi Yechezkel Sharaga Kahane, was born in Safed, Palestine, Ottoman ( In today's Israel), in 1905 and went into Polish and Czech Studies yeshiva religious schools. Later he emigrated to the United States, where he served as rabbi of two communities. Meir received his rabbinic ordination from the Mir Yeshiva in Brooklyn, and graduated with a BA inPolitical Science from Brooklyn College. He was completely familiar with the Talmud and Tanach (Jewish Bible), and worked as a pulpit rabbi and teacher in the 1960s. During this time he oversaw folk musician Arlo Guthrie for his Bar Mitzvah. Subsequently, he earned a JD from New York Law School and an LLM from New York University Law School. As a teenager he was an ardent admirer of Ze'ev Jabotinsky, who was a frequent guest at the home of his parents, and joined the Betar (Brit Trumpeldor) YouthWing of revisionist Zionism. He was involved in protests against Ernest Bevin, the British foreign secretary, who blocked the immigration of Nazi death camp survivor, to oppose the independence of Palestine and Israel in favor of the creation of a Hashemite Arab monarchy depends on the British works.
