Campus Life at an Allied Health School

If you are thinking about getting a degree in allied health education, it's a good idea to get an understanding of the campus life at an allied health school before you begin your academic course. You will want to know what life as a student will be like, and after completing an allied health education degree, which is typically a Bachelor of Science i
fff
n Health and Human Services with a concentration in Allied Health Education, you may be looking for work on allied health school campuses. These campuses are integral to our healthcare system, and you will be instructing allied health care professionals before they begin their careers and for continuous training throughout their careers.
The campus life at an allied health school varies depending on whether you work at a community college, medical institution, skill center, vocational / technical school or other institution of higher education. Many allied health instructors graduated from these schools, had careers for several years and decided to go back for a bachelor's degree, which is a good way to go. Many go on from there to teach at these institutions for many more years. This gives you a thorough understanding about campus life at an allied health school plus on-the-job experience, so you will have a basis to identify with the students when they ask about their future careers.
The campus life at an allied health school is unique because everyone there is studying for a medical career, unlike a traditional college or university where all sorts of students attend for numerous academic majors. There are also more working adults and returning students at allied health schools, creating a common denominator for students to relate to one another.
In order to get into an allied health education program you will need to complete an accredited associate's degree, certificate program or licensure in an approved allied health technical or professional specialty. This will give you an opportunity to experience the campus life at an allied health school and gain a solid understanding of the culture and the coursework. There is a great deal of hands-on training involved in allied health schools, and many courses require that students wear scrubs or other professional attire, so it feels like a hospital campus at times. The campuses are bustling with future allied healthcare providers in fields such as dental hygiene, medical assisting, sonography and much more.

Surviving Graduate School: Three Reasons to Get a Mentor

Let's admit it right here - grad school is tough. Although some schools let you off easy, there are always going to be tough classes and major challenges while you're in grad school. Having a mentor can help you successfully navigate the sometimes tricky waters of graduate school and keep you on the road toward success.

Reason #1: Mentors Can Help You Make Class Choic
fff
es

Some graduate programs give you a lot of room for choosing extra classes. These are usually the ones that will someday help you, but you may have trouble determining which would be best right now. Mentors are great at giving you guidance, particularly if they work in the profession which you're going to enter or went through the same program.

Reason #2: Mentors Have Experience

Whether your mentor has experience in the field or in your specific program, their advice and understanding will be just what you need to keep you going through the hard times. If they have experience in the field, they can help you see the roadblocks to studies you might conduct or challenges you'll face after school. If they've actually been in your program as well, they can tell you which teachers to watch out for and which classes should or should not be taken during the same semester. A mentor's experience can save you time, money, and stress, whether you're designing a study or planning your semester.

Reason #3: Mentors Can Help You Focus on the Goal

After a semester or two in graduate school, you may start feeling a little burned out - okay, maybe a lot burned out. Having a mentor can help you focus on the ultimate goal. If you are in school to be a dentist, then your mentor might be a local dentist whose office you could visit sometimes. Your visits will remind you that you love the profession and the prospect of being your own boss.

Reason #4: Mentors Can Keep You Sane

When you're angry at a professor's bad decision or another student's lazy attitude, a mentor can help you remain calm. They will be there to let you talk through your problems and come to conclusions instead of just getting angry. Your mentor may be the one person during graduate school, particularly if you're in a Ph.D program, who will be rooting for you and helping keep you sane.

Everyone needs a friend during graduate school - an objective person to help them make the hard choices and walk through the difficult problems. A mentor can help you deal with all those things that you'll face in graduate school so that you'll come out successful when the time finally comes to graduate.

Ways to Excel in Graduate School

If you find graduate school difficult, you are not alone. Graduate education is a time-consuming and thought-provoking journey. There are ways that can help you get through this period and really excel in your classes.

Good study habits will help you excel in graduate school. Expect to be assigned hundreds of pages of reading. You have to learn to read quickly and effectively. Learning good study habits will make your life easier. Take notes while reading. Summarize the topics as
fff
you go along especially the ones you have trouble with. Writing will help you memorize and it will also provide good notes to read through before a big exam.

Manage your time. Many people have a hard time studying five hours straight. Studying for long periods of time can cause strain. Plan to study at different times of the day. Study a couple hours before class or squeeze some study time in before lunch. Breaking up your study time will allow you to feel refreshed before hitting the books again.

Another way to excel in school is to get involved. Join study groups. Study groups can provide support when you’re studying. Study groups are also a great way to socialize with your classmates. Spending time with people who understand what you’re going through can be a relief. Talk about better ways to study or new ways to memorize material.

Also get involved with your professors and teaching assistants. Look up their office hours and visit your professor or teaching assistant at least once during your course. This will let them know that you’re serious about the class and want to learn all you can. Ask them to recommend other books if you are fascinated with the subject. Ask them career advice, especially if you are thinking about becoming a university professor.

If you find it hard to get the grades you want, seek out a tutor. Many universities offer free tutoring, usually by students who are older than you or farther along in the graduate program. Tutors can help you better understand your course material. They can also give you advice on how to cope with the assignments and hectic class schedule.

Don’t forget to join clubs and hang out with your friends. Don’t underestimate the benefits of play time. Sometimes you need to talk to people that have other interests than your graduate program. School is important but it can’t be the focus of your entire life. Try volunteering or playing intramural sports. Exercise is a great way to relieve stress.

Graduate school is difficult. Take the time to organize yourself and your study habits. You will find that this will give you confidence and help you excel in graduate school.

What Are Child Care Centers and What Facilities Do They Provide?

Child care centers are a form of blessing for many parents around the world. These centers are so popular that children when they reach a certain age are then admitted to these centers. When these centers were established it was of great ease for parents who were working and feeding their family. Most fami
fff
lies had both of the parents working on a job because living was not easy if single parent was earning.
These centers were established so that parents could leave their children at the centre and then go for their work without worrying about their children's safety. These centers provide all sort of care and security for children, they have well trained and experienced staff which knows how to deal and look after children. They teach the children alphabets and numbers and other things which are necessary to learn before going to school.
It is not necessary to put your child in these centers not because both parents are working but it is necessary for the child to be prepared for entering school level. This centre does also help to build up the social level of potential of the child. Your child will tend to adjust easily when he reaches the age for going to school.
There are certain things you should check before opting for a child care centre as this is the matter of safety of your child. You should first search for a well known centre which you know is famous in your city. These types of centers are usually expensive and thus are not in the reach of the majority of the people. But there are many center's which are famous and they do not tend to charge high amounts and are in easy reach of the majority.
You should check and short lists few centers and then go and check out the facilities they have to provide. You should check the teachers and staff and check their behavior towards the children present. The teachers and the staff should be friendly and be polite on them. This is an important factor because if the teachers and the staff are harsh on children then the child tends to hate them and ultimately would not want to or would not enjoy going to the centre.
These center's should have ample place in the classroom so that each child gets appropriate attention and the class should not be over crowded. You have to check the environment of the place and should be kept cleaned and safe for children. The sanitary system of the place should be clean and should be in proper working order.
You should satisfy yourself completely from the place you choose and then decide on it firmly. Many centres have obtained proper licenses from state and are good at their work. The children are safe and all kept in proper attention and care. These centers try to ensure best possible means of education and care is provided to your child and keep you satisfied.

Dr. Conrad Volz on the WVSA and Frack Water Treatment Facilities

Dr. Conrad Volz displayed a photograph of brine- and chemical-laden natural gas wastewater pouring into a western Pennsylvania stream from a treatment facility in Josephine. "This has to be stopped," he declared. "This is a public health emergency." Volz, director of the University of Pittsburgh Center for Healthy Environments and Communities, came to Misericordia University on Monday at the request of the Gas Drilling Awareness Coalition to speak about the impact of Marcellus Shale drilling on public health. Recent revelations by The New York Times that improperly treated wastewater containing brine, radioactive material and other harmful substances is finding its way into the state's bodies of water, along with the Wyoming Valley Sanitary Authority's consideration of a treatment facility in Hanover Township and two potential natural gas metering stations near the Dallas schools made the presentation timely. Two main problems with natural gas drilling is the potential for explosions and blowouts at wells, compressor stations and pipelines, and the fact that the state often allows drilling wastewater to get into the environment after inadequate treatment, according to Volz. Hydraulic fracturing, or "fracking," involves sending millions of gallons of chemical-treated water to open cracks in the shale and release the gas. In addition to the chemicals, the water picks up salts, naturally occurring radioactive material, barium, magnesium and various other volatile organic ...

Factors to Consider When Choosing the Right Child Daycare Center

Most parents work long hours in order to earn and feed their family.  Although parents tend to get nervous when choosing the suitable daycare center, with some tips it will be very easy for you to decide and not be worried about it. You have to search for a suitable place for your childre
fff
n. Child daycare center is the place where your child goes before he goes to proper school and this is the place where he gets exposed to alphabets and numbers and shapes. More importantly they teach children how to socialize and get along with other children and share. This is usually a part time schedule
Child daycare centers are generally the best option for single mothers or working parents who need their children to be taken care of during the day. Child daycare centers works fulltime and with a full year program. Children here play with the presence of teachers and staff and most important is that they take care of your children during the day.
When the child is born and till the certain age of 3 to 4 years he is completely taken care by parents, but when he starts going to daycare centers they put a huge impact on child's development.
There are 5 basic qualities you should look for when choosing the right daycare center.
There should be a good match between your child's interest and needs and daycares ability to meet them. It is really important to have a potential relationship which should be continuous, strong and positive relationship between your child and daycare center. You should check out small ration of child daycare center, it is ideal to have not more than four children to one caregiver. Check whether the staff has been trained in health, safety and child development. Take notice of the hygiene conditions of the place as this is one of the most important factors you should take in notice because it can affect your child's health.
Children at daycare center learn to make new friends, play turn by turn, learn to follow rules and adopt good habits. Good childcare centers will have well trained teachers and staff which help your child in indulging in different activities such as painting, other fun games and learn to play music and dance and reading.
Discipline is one of the main issues to consider as you do not want your child to be treated in a harsh way and be disciplined in a bad manner.
Daycare center encourages classrooms styled environment for older children to make them adapt to school like environment so they are not intimidated when they go to proper school and thus daycare center is like a preparatory step towards going to school.
Daycare centers have teachers who are on pay roll, most of them supervise timely homework schedule for older children, so the burden of parents to give much time to their child's education is put off.

Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar Walk Off 'View' Set While Talking to Bill O'Reilly "Muslims Killed Us"

Fireworks erupted on the set of 'The View' today when hosts Whoopi Goldberg and Joy Behar left the set during an interview with Bill O'Reilly while discussing the proposed "Ground Zero mosque." "The mosque down here on 9/11. That's inappropriate," O'Reilly said of the planned Islamic community center being built near the site of the former World Trade Center. "Sure, they have a right to do it," he continued. "But it's inappropriate because a lot of the 9/11 families who I know, say, 'Look, we don't want that.'" When Joy, Whoopi and the other ladies expressed their opposition to 'The O'Reilly Factor' star's opinion, he attempted to shut them down. "Listen to me because you'll learn," he exclaimed, adding that he believes President Obama's numbers are falling because of his unwillingness to comment on "the wisdom of" building the community center. "You're saying that Americans are not smart enough to recognize that while it is part of our Constitution to say freedom of religion and freedom to worship and there were 70 families who are Muslim who also died in that building. So you're saying that his saying that they have the right to do it and not saying anymore is why his approval ratings have gone down?" Goldberg questioned. The heated discussion went back and forth, but the blowout came after O'Reilly said "Muslims killed us on 9/11." Goldberg and Behar attempted to specify that it was an extremist sect within Islam and not the religion itself that attacked the US When O ...

The Astro Congress Center gave hospitality to "Creativamenti", the fourth national meeting on the creative learning and teaching which took place in Tabiano Bagni (Pr) from the 23th to the 25th of October.
Three days of seminars and workshops organized by Creativ Group of Reggio Emilia for teachers and educators. In particular, on Friday 23, after "In relation with.. ", a laboratory dedicated to the awareness of the self and the other, the doors of the Beauty Farm Alhambra, the wellness center part of Grand Hotel Terme Astro, opened up. And here, in fact, the "Eastern Vapours" programme started.
In the Tepidarium music and a cup of green or mint tea helped the guests to get used to the temperature of 35-40 grades centigrade and to relax. According to the Moroccan tradition, the body is covered with the black soup, a special paste of olives and mineral salts which eliminates impurities and toxins. After the savonnage it is time for Calidarium, where the aromatherapic vapours help to get in touch with the self, open out and leave behind the stress of frenzied rhythms. Running a special mitt on the body, the skin becomes smoothy and silky: ready to plunge in the Frigidarium, a spa tub with a temperature of 28-30 grades centigrade. In the end, lying on confortable chaise lounges it is time to enjoy peace and quietness with herbal teas and pastries.
Highlight of the convention has been the national meeting "Methods matters: the Creative Learning Method among disciplinary knowledge and social relations", which presented the observations and experiences realized in the classes by the teachers involved in the project.
Easy to reach, in a quiet location and with 11 meeting rooms with a capacity ranging from 20 places up to a maximum of 800, the conference hotel is provided with the ideal spaces and equipments for meetings, team building sessions and fairs. Besides the conference rooms, the four star resort is provided with 115 rooms and an efficient restaurant service. The chefs of the restaurant delle Calle, in fact, will prepare lunches, gala dinners, coffe breaks, working breakfasts and aperitifs.
It is not by chance that Creativ Group, after the positive experience last year, has come back again at Astro Congress Center.

Johns Hopkins Bayview Aliki Initiative

In 2007, the Center for Innovative Medicine at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center launched the Aliki Initiative, a novel curriculum in patient-centered care for internal medicine residents and medical students. Under the direction of Dr. Roy Ziegelstein and Dr. Cynthia Rand, this program emphasizes that optimal medical care can be delivered only if medical treatments are tailored to the individual patient. During this experience, young physicians and physicians-in-training develop a deeper understanding of their patients' living situation and social support system. They call every patient and visit some of them at home after hospital discharge. The program, supported through the generosity of Mrs. Aliki Perroti, has been very highly evaluated by residents, medical students, and -- most importantly -- patients. Marilyn Agrelo talks about "Mad Hot Ballroom"

Marilyn Agrelo came center stage with Mark Gordon to talk about her award winning documentary MAD HOT BALLROOM. The film was short listed for "Best Documentary" at the 2006 Academy Awards. Eleven-year-old New York City public school kids journey into the world of ballroom dancing and reveal pieces of themselves and their world along the way. Told from their candid, sometimes hilarious perspectives, these kids are transformed, from reluctant participants to determined competitors, from typical urban kids to "ladies and gentlemen," on their way to try to compete in the final citywide competition. Providing unique insight into the incredible cultural diversity that is New York City, this film profiles several kids from three schools (out of 60) at this dynamic age, when becoming that "cool" teenager vies for position with familiar innocence, while they learn the merengue, rumba, tango, the foxtrot and swing.
